Ergonomic Chair Selection 101
As people have been transitioning from work from home to back to the office (or vice versa), the Holistic Annex team has been busy working with clients on setting up office spaces to fit client needs. One of the most important components of an office is selecting the right office chair. When picking out an ergonomic chair, it is important to look at each component separately. Consider the following components when purchasing an ergonomic chair:
Pneumatic seat height adjustment:
Allows the seat height to be adjusted so your legs are bent at 90 ̊ and to reduce the pressure around the buttocks and spine.
Waterfall (curved downward) front edge:
Improves blood circulation in the legs compared to a straight edge seat pan.
Adjustable seat pan depth:
Allows you to adjust to having a few inches of space between your knees and the seat edge for proper circulation.
Backrest with adjustable lumbar support:
Adjustable lumbar support will allow you to adjust how much support is needed for your lower back. If it is not adjustable, the backrest should fit the natural curve of your spine. A height-adjustable backrest is ideal to fit the length of your back.
Tilt tension control:
Tilt tension should be adjusted so you can easily rock back in your chair and offload pressure on your back for short durations
Casters:
If your floor is carpeted, you need hard casters such as casters made of nylonIf you have hard flooring, you need soft casters such as casters made of urethane
