The Benefits of Pet Therapy

Who doesn’t love a cute puppy or furry kitten? Perhaps a baby goat is more your style?!

The benefits of Pet Therapy can have a huge impact on a person’s wellbeing!

The research has shown the benefits of interaction with animals can positively impact:

  • Physical wellbeing

  • Mental wellbeing

  • Emotional wellbeing

The simple act of holding or petting an animal can relieve anxiety, depression,  and lower blood pressure. Pets can positively impact the quality of life - this can include aid in reducing loneliness, increase pleasure and joy, and increase comfort and safety. Having a pet or interacting with an animal can help release endorphins that produce a calming effect.

Seniors can also benefit from pet therapy. Pets and elderly people can provide each other companionship and reduce behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.

Holistic Annex’s owner Alicia is the proud owner and dog momma to Beau, a Portuguese Water Dog. Beau may someday become a therapy dog… if he can pass the test! Isn’t he cute?!
