Locus of Control
We can’t always control the things that happen to us in our lives. Whether it’s an injury, sickness, or loss, some things are completely out of our control. However, we do have the ability to control how we respond to these events.
Recognizing the things that are out of our control can help bring peace and acceptance. For instance, we cannot control what other people think, feel, and believe or the world around us. At the same time, recognizing what is in our control can motivate us to take action and make changes to improve our wellbeing. We can focus our efforts on our thoughts, behaviours, and decisions that can help the situation and relieve the stress and worry about what is out of our control.
