Signs of Depression

What is depression? 

Depression is more than just sadness, it affects how you think, act, and feel and participate in your daily life. Depression can significantly interfere with your normal day-to-day activities, even the small tasks can become overwhelming and take extra effort to accomplish. 

What can depression look like? 

Here are some ways that depression may present itself:

Physical Changes

  • Low energy levels 

  • Changes in appetite including loss of appetite and weight loss or increased cravings for food and weight gain 

  • Pain such as headaches and body aches 

  • Slowed body movements 

Emotional Changes

  • Feelings of sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness 

  • Angry outbursts, irritability, frustration 

  • Feeling numb 

  • Feelings of worthlessness or guilt

Thoughts and Behaviour

  • Trouble concentrating 

  • Memory difficulties

  • Loss of interest in previous activities 

  • Slowed thinking or speaking

  • Sleep difficulties 

  • Impulsive and reckless behaviour
